Be careful where you park – even outside your home!

Today I was contacted by a local resident in Kingsmead Road. He had been given a parking ticket for causing an obstruction – outside his home!

It appears that the parking in Kingsmead car park was full and visitors were parking along the road opposite his home.

It seems the amount of public parking for some leisure facilities in Ryemead is becoming an issue. This is a problem that needs addressing.

The answer isn’t to simply put a parking ticket on the cars. That is not treating the underlying cause. The lack of off road public parking and the lack of a cohesive public transport strategy is the real issue.

Specific problems identified by residents in several areas of Ryemead -

1. Rugby Club public car park off Kingsmead Road.

2. Kingsmead Netball car park in Fennels Road

3. Fitness First area in the new retail park.

4. The Rye during summer holiday months and some Sundays.

In the interim be vigilant and ensure your car is not in a position where it could be ticketed!

You are invited to attend a public consultation meeting to start the implementation of Neighbourhood Policing for residents of Abbey and Ryemead.

The meeting will take place at High Wycombe Cricket Club on the London Road on Wednesday 30 January commencing at 7.00pm. Insp Dave Gilbert will explain how Neighbourhood Policing works, after which residents will be invited to identify the main issues which are causing concern.

This is a new approach to policing which involves local communities working much more closely together to resolve their problems. The aim is for officers and other public agencies to respond to the issues which directly affect residents and tackle them at their root cause, providing long term solutions as well as increasing reassurance and reducing the fear of crime.

Following this meeting a Neighbourhood Action Group, (NAG) will be set up to work out and plan how best to address the issues which are raised. The group will include local residents from the parish, police representatives, district councillors, housing associations, and schools.

This is a great opportunity for local people to join together and help find solutions to local issues and it is hoped that as many people, both young and old, will come along to the public meeting.

Please do try to attend and pass on this information to your scheme members, friends and family who may also wish to attend.

Your Liberal Democrat Councillors are pressing for protection of our historic High Street shops and market.

We hear quite a lot about the thousands of visitors coming to High Wycombe with the opening of Eden. I’m sure we will have a lot of new visitors to the shopping centre
However let’s not forget about our traditional High Street shops and Market. Despite numerous requests we are not seeing investment in this area ahead of the opening of Eden.
It had been suggested that footfall will drop in this area of the town despite the opening of Eden. We are also told the opening of Eden will bring new shoppers to the town. No one really knows—this is concerning!

We need to understand the dynamics and shopping patterns of the High Street now to be able to manage the dynamics and changes to retail and shopping patterns in this area.
Since August 2007 we have been promised that the High Street shopping footfall patterns would be monitored . This is supposed to be managed by the town centre video cameras.

December 2007 and we are still waiting for the tracking of shoppers to be done. If it is not running by early January 2008 its going to be too late to collect robust shopper data.

Why do we need to track the footfall?
There is concerns that if the trade drops off in the High Street that the shops and market traders businesses would suffer. No one in Wycombe would want to see a situation where we find our unique shops and markets under financial pressure and be accused of Eden killing off local businesses. Wycombe would lose some of its uniqueness. We need to be in a position to track and monitor the changes so we can request that our council make necessary changes to protect this part of our shopping heritage.

Your Liberal Democrat Councillors are posing questions — when will the shopper footfall tracking be in place.
To date we have not been given a date.

The Marsh First School excelled itself last night with the school childrens production of “Rock the Baby”.
The school hall was filled with proud parents, friends, governors and local councillors who were present for the production

A well done to the Headteacher, teachers, PTA, parents and the children for putting on such a good show.
It is brilliant to see that the school continues to be a positive contribution to the Ryemead and Micklefield area
Cllr Ray Farmer and I look forward to the next event.

This week Cllr Ray Farmer and Cllr Trevor Snaith had the privelege to be invited along with other local councillors to the celebration of Highcrest Community School achieving exceptional Ofsted results.
This is even more exceptional as the school was a “fresh start school ” a few years ago
The crowning jewel in its success is the fact its results places it at the forefront in terms of Ofsted results in Bucks — ahead of the top grammar schools in Wycombe !!
Well done to the pupils staff and team who made a success
