Services under Threat

Written by morty on December 21, 2008 – 10:18 pm -

It has long been rumoured that the Conservatives running Wycombe District Council were planning a series of cuts to the grants provided to local organisations and community groups however the cuts they are proposing are extremely severe and are much larger than even we could have imagined. Make no mistake these cuts will put at risk a number of local groups who rely on this funding to survive. Our Liberal Democrat group of councillors are currently studying the figures and will look for sensible solutions to this financial mess.

High Wycombe’s Open Air Swimming Pool is on the list of cuts proposed by Wycombe District Council.

Steve Guy Parliamentary Candidate for High Wycombe said “The Holywell Mead pool is a terrific asset to the town. It averages over 10,000 swims a year. Swimming is a great way of tearing young people away from their Playstations and TV sets getting them interested in something more healthy. This facility has been used by Wycombe families since it’s opening in 1957. It is loved by Wycombe residents who flock to the facility whenever the sun shines. I have spent many enjoyable summer days with my family at the pool. I want this facility to be around for my children to bring their families to in years to come. I will not let this pool close without a fight. I urge local Councillors to think again and protect our jewel on the Rye.”

The ‘Save Holywell Mead Swimming Pool’ Facebook group has been created to co-ordinate the campaign and to discuss possible future enhancements that will allow the facility to be used all year round.

It’s good to see the Liberal Democrats standing up for local people with this essential campaign. With a bit of common sense this pool in a superb location, should be viable. Letting out the pool should be promoted, it’s a great venue for parties and special occasions.
    Keep up the good work,
    Councillors Ditta and Julia Wassell

Its great he public coming together on issue that matters to residents of Wycombe

The Torys who are asset stripping the town of services are going to have to take notice and realise they need to listen to local people

Thanks must go to all supporters-
Schools, churches, shops, pubs, mosques,BFP and all those people signing the petitions across the district
