Steve Guy officially welcomes Julia Wassell as a Liberal Democrat

Councillor Wassell sits on both Buckinghamshire County Council and Wycombe District Council. In 2005, she was the Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate for Wycombe.

Wycombe Liberal Democrats Parliamentary Spokesman, Steve Guy said:

I am delighted to welcome Councillor Wassell to the Liberal Democrat team in Wycombe. She has an outstanding record of campaigning hard on local issues and getting results. I believe she will be a great asset.
We are all looking forward to working with her for the benefit of the people of Wycombe.

Councillor Wassell said:

I am looking forward to working with people who are putting their principles into practice. Working in a very local way to empower people and communities. The Liberal Democrats have welcomed me warmly and will be able to support my commitment to campaigning and casework in Wycombe. I have had the greatest respect for many members of the Lib Dems for a number of years whom I know personally. I am particularly pleased also to join the Lib Dem group on the County
Council where I will be well supported in contrast to the previous situation

  1. You are very lucky that Julia has joined you, she has helped me many times over the years. I can confirm that she is highly committed to the residents of Bowerdean area, myself and my family will be joining you.

  2. I believe Mr Laker also knows about changing parties. Why not come back to the Liberal Democrats? Their policies have a green integrity throughout, and if any have not, it is up to members to argue their case at the Party Conference.

Welcome to the Liberal Democrats, Julia. I hope you will feel that your politics in the community is appreciated and supported amongst us.

  3. Welcome to our new councillor and member!

I can attest to Julia’s campaiging expertise, since she was instrumental in the success of the campaign to save Micklefield Library, and freely gave of her time to advise the West Wycombe Library Action Group in the early days of our own campaign to save the village library.

I am delighted to welcome someone with a long pedigree in green politics, too. I remember Julia when she was a member of the Green Party. I joined the Liberal Party in 1977 precisely because it was the only significant political party espousing an environmental agenda. It is good to see that Julia has finally recognised that the Liberal Democrats offer the most effective way of putting environmental policies into effect. i can only wonder that she managed to reconcile membership of the Labour Party with her own political philosophy for so long!

    Welcome Julia!

  4. Thought I’d seen the last of her but she’s followed me o’er. Ah divvent kna but me stottie’s fair blathered, bonnie lad, why aye, gannin’ doon.
