Gordon Brown has shown that he has failed to meet the challenge set by the Stern Report.

He could have used his speech to give a new direction to the way in which Britain pays tax, yet all he has done is give Green taxes a bad name.

The public are not as stupid as Labour thinks. They can spot more stealth taxes.

Green Taxes need to be part of a complete shift of taxes from income and onto polllution, not as Labour thinks – on top of them.

The Liberal Democrats want to give the average family a £1000 income tax cut as well as increasing green taxes. Taxing good things (like income) less, and switching to taxing bad things (like pollution) instead.

Fair tax not more tax.

That is the right approach and is the only way in which you can take the people with you.
