The 2005 General Election saw the participation of a new breed of political commentator. An estimated 300,000 Brits are blogging now, and Liberal Democrats enthusiastically seized the medium as a new way of communicating the political debate with anyone who had access to the internet. Our parliamentary candidate in 2005, James Oates, started this weblog as a campaign diary, and as a platform for his thoughts during the remainder of 2005. At the end of 2005, James’s term as our offical spokesman ended. Under our party rules, we must reselect the parliamentary candidate after the end of the year in which the election falls. James is, of course, eligible to reapply if he so wishes. But we thought that the blog was too good to simply forget. James suggested that we convert the blog into a Wycombe ‘team blog’, so that it could continue. All of James’s original entries are still here – but expect to see new contributors too. We hope that it will prove an interesting read!
